On October 3rd ODP Hosted The Insights Revolution Dealmakers Summit
Oaklins DeSilva+Phillips brought together leaders from across the Insights industry to discuss the new tools, companies, and investors revolutionizing the industry landscape.
Elaine Riddell, Senior Advisor of Oaklins DeSilva+Phillips, set the stage with her compelling keynote, “The Disruption of Marketing Data & Insights.” Elaine highlighted the rise of the Experience Economy and the search for deeper and more meaningful personalization as driving factors towards improvements in the customer experience. Elaine further detailed how she visualizes the industry progressing through four waves of innovation, with each subsequent wave facing steeper technical challenges and greater data complexity.
The first panel, titled Big Deal: How Private Equity is Reshaping the Insights Industry?, featured John Almeida, General Partner of Saroras Private Capital, and Will Bihrle, Vice President of Bain Capital. The panelists discussed the pivotal role private equity is playing in transforming the slow-growth, service-oriented market-research industry’s biggest players into dynamic, tech-enabled platforms and data powerhouses.
Paul Krasinski, CEO of Epicenter Experience, and Avi Savar, President of SUZY, were featured in a spotlight interview titled 1st Party Data – The New Gold? The panelists discussed how first-party data has surged in value in the face of ever-stricter privacy regulations. Additionally, the rise of new tools that have transformed the real-time collection of first-party data into an engine that drives customer loyalty and facilitates better relationships is of equal importance.
Subsequently, Bill Watts, Deputy Markets Editor of Dow Jones MarketWatch, interviewed Vin Vacanti, CEO of YipitData, which provides investors with public-company analysis based on alternative data (data generated by sources outside the company). Vin discussed how the hunger for an investment “edge” is fueling the growth of data-set providers and firms performing human analysis and machine-driven analytics. Demand outside of Wall Street is a new growth opportunity.
The next panel, titled Healthcare Insights: Improving Patient Outcomes, featured Chris Bradley, Executive Director of Healthcare for Comcast, Jerry Fields, CEO of Kantar USA, Greg Hedges, Vice President of Emerging Experiences for RAIN, and Gaurav Kapoor, CEO of Newristics. With healthcare consuming nearly 20% of US GDP, all sectors of the healthcare ecosystem face enormous pressure to raise productivity, lower costs, and, most importantly, improve patient outcomes. The panelists discussed how the implementation of better data and analytical engines can conserve resources, help personalize treatment, and close the expectations gap between spending and outcomes.
Last, but certainly not least, was the headline interview, How Insights Transformed the NBA. David Stern, Commissioner Emeritus of the NBA, was interviewed by Eric Chemi, Sports Business Reporter at CNBC. Mr. Stern discussed the critical role that increased access to data is playing in radically transforming many aspects of the NBA, including ticket sales, merchandise, league rules, coaching decisions, scheduling and even player health. Deeper insights, moreover, will play a critical role as the NBA pushes into new markets around the world.
Approximately 100 PE, VC, Corporate Development, Business Development, as well as C-Level executives, entrepreneurs, and founders gathered to join the conversation.
