DeSilva+Phillips is hiring an Associate to join the investment banking team in New York. The Associate will be a senior transaction team member that will focus on creating client-facing documents, managing and coordinating execution across the banking team, spearheading business development initiatives, and conducting financial-modeling, market research, writing, and analysis components of those materials.

DeSilva+Phillips is a close-knit team, and cultural fit is an important consideration. The candidate will become a central member of our deal execution team, and will operate with a great deal of autonomy. Candidates must have prior experience working in M&A at an investment bank, private equity firm, or as an operator in the media space.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Writing Confidential Information Memoranda
  • Coordinating communication between DeSilva+Phillips and clients
  • Managing the preparation of pitch presentation materials including the development of valuation materials (comparable companies/transactions,  DCF analysis, market metric based valuations, etc.), buyers lists and market trends
  • Supporting buyer due diligence through the operation of virtual data rooms
  • Candidates must be self-motivated and comfortable taking a leadership role in a small team with limited oversight
  • Ideal candidates are creative thinkers that work toward creating lasting value and efficient processes. They must be comfortable prioritizing multiple projects on different timelines.

Desired Skills & Experience

Required Qualifications:

  • 1+ year(s) of post graduate work experience in investment banking, private equity, consulting or the media industry
  • BA/BS from a competitive institution with coursework in finance or economics and demonstrated writing abilities.  (Writing samples will be required.)
  • A general understanding of financial statement analysis and valuation methodologies
  • Excel & PowerPoint proficiency
  • Excellent verbal communication abilities
  • Project and team management experience
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills. Client and team interaction will be a significant component of the position
  • Proven leadership and ability to work independently and proactively to meet deadlines
  • An ability to apply lessons and feedback across a variety of settings

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Past experience drafting transaction documentation (Confidential Information Memoranda, management presentations, pitch books, business plans, etc.)

Job description

We are seeking a Business Development Analyst to work directly with an Investment Banking Partner to support our business development activities. As a vital member of the organization, this person will be responsible for working closely with Partners and Managing Directors across the firm to cultivate new clients through a variety of business development and marketing related activities.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing presentations, proposals, and pitch materials in connection with new business opportunities and supporting all efforts to successfully demonstrate, articulate and pitch the credentials of our firm
  • Update print and digital marketing materials to ensure content reflects the substantive strengths, accomplishments and current activities of the firm and each industry sector practice group
  • Conduct research regarding existing and prospective clients, competitor activity and market trends/opportunities
  • Leading the planning and management of events hosted by the firm, including overseeing monthly Harvard Business School Dealmaker Breakfast Series and quarterly/semi-annual Dealmakers Series events.
  • Supporting all the firm’s thought leadership efforts. Working with Managing Directors to produce monthly email newsletters for their respective industry sectors and develop research projects and white papers to present the firm’s analysis and perspective on important industry topics and trends.
  • Working with our Global partners across 40 countries to keep our active deals report updated and help our international liaison coordinate on cross-border deal opportunities.
  • Maintaining client database and updating and improving Salesforce reporting
  • Being a valued extension of the firm’s documentation team, to help support all aspects of onboarding of new clients including document creation, due diligence and process logistics.
  • Responsibilities also include managing business development related administrative activities.

Qualifications for ideal candidates:

  • A self-starter with a strong analytic mindset, who is proactive, focused, organized, detail-oriented, collaborative, flexible with a high level of resilience, able to work in fast moving environment with diverse personalities.
  • Willingness to “roll up your sleeves” to do the work; Ability to handle many projects simultaneously and effectively prioritize across a diverse workload with strong project management skills/discipline to meet aggressive deadlines.
  • Must have very strong PowerPoint presentation skills and ability to develop Boardroom-level presentations
  • Prior strategy consulting experience (esp, Big 4, McKinsey, Bain, BCG, Accenture) a major plus
  • Ability to do comprehensive market and company research and incorporate competitive/marketplace analysis, segment needs, to identify opportunities and execute marketing and business development activities.

The position offers candidates the opportunity to work directly with senior members of ODP’s team and our clients’ executive management teams. Candidates must possess excellent writing and analytical skills, as throughout the M&A process from pitch to closing, the candidate will conduct extensive client financial due diligence and market research while developing comprehensive informational memoranda and management presentations for prospective strategic and financial buyers/investors. Marketing and diligence materials produced will include financial analyses including operating and valuation models such as discounted cash flow, LBO and accretion/dilution analyses, as well as public comps/precedent transactions.
